What's in my Diaper/ Nappy Bag (at 5 months)

I thought it might be interesting to do a 'what's in my nappy bag' blog. I'll try and keep it as simple and minimal as possible, but I'm still at a stage where I take a bag full of things when I go out with munchkin. It DOES depend on where we are going, weather, how long we're staying out for etc. I do pack her bag each time we go out, Melbourne weather is so unpredictable I pack different outfits depending on the weather forecast, (Yes, a lot to think about when you have a little one).

The two things that are not in the bag, but I do keep in the car are possum's jacket and a thick blanket , along with a few toys she's got in the back seat.

So firstly the diaper bag I have been using is the Oroton essential baby bag satchel. I purchased this when I was around 6 months pregnant, it was on sale, so I thought it was the perfect time to snatch it up. It comes with a change pad, bottle warmer and two purses ( medium and large). It's a decent size bag, with several compartments and a bottle pouch on each side.
Here is the checklist I adhered to, when shopping for a Nappy bag.

  • Must be large enough to fit a change pad, and several other items. Size was important to me.
  • I didn't want tote looking bag, I wanted something that I could swing over my shoulder so I could have my hands free at all times. The last thing I wanted to worry about was holding bub in one hand and the bag in the other, and this bag is great, it has the long adjustable handles, so FREE hands Yaay!
  • I was looking for a bag with a bottle holder (I didn't want any milk spillage anywhere in the bag). If any of you have this on your checklist you can say goodbye to all handbags, totes etc. You would most likely be looking for a nappy/ diaper bag to accommodate for this fit.
  • And lastly, I wanted a bag with a few different pockets to get all my stuff organised, and have certain things in certain places. I don't like rummaging through bags to find things, ( that's what tends to happen when I have one large pocketed bag).
Ok so let's get started.

1. Cotton muslin wrap, I use this for anything and everything. As a light blanket, feeding cover, pram liner (if her liner gets soiled), towel, to clean up mess. Muslim wraps are great for all things, and this particular one is by 'and the little dog laughed', it's extra large, hence it can be used for all sorts of lovely  surprises.

2. This is the matching burp cloth by 'and the little dog laughed'.

3. A sun hat. I tend to carry one in the bag for possum, I usually take her out during the day so it's a MUST for sunny afternoons, this one is a Bonds hat.

4. Clothing. I usually carry 2 sets for my baby bear (depending on the weather). This is a long sleeved knitted romper from Mothercare.

5. Dribble bib. This one's from 'Hapy hippy kids'.

6. Socks, munchkin is always biting her socks and pulling them off, I usually have an extra pair on hand.

7. Top, you can never have too many clothes in the nappy bag. This one is a Max & Tilly.

8. Digital thermometer. I feel comfortable knowing I have one in the bag, this one is from 'Safety 1st' and I have 2 of these,  it takes 2 seconds to check her temperature. I definitely recommend this for all moms. I keep one in her bag and one at home by my bedside.

9. Sudocream. My 'go to' nappy cream, it soothes nappy rash in a day.

10. Baby Panadol,  I keep this in her bag just as precaution.

11. Baby wipes.  ( I always make sure it's a near- new pack or one that has more than half, you don't want to be in a situation where you don't have enough)

12. Nappies. ( I usually pack 4-5)

13. The change mat is  Spencer and Rutherford, a good size and fits perfectly in the nappy bag.

14. Scented nappy bags. (oh, a must have for those explosions haha)

15. Bottles, I usually take 1-2 on the road. I still breast feed, so these are just really for back up. I use both Avent and Mothercare bottles, I prefer the Avent ones.

16. Formula. I refill her formula container before we head out, it's enough for 3-4 bottles.

17. Baby food. These are 4month + baby food packets, missy never finishes a whole pack, it usually lasts for 2 meals.

18. Spoon attachments. Now these are GREAT, instead of carrying containers , you attached the little spoon to the food pouch and feed your child directly from it, just squeezing out enough for each spoon. And there you have it, a mess free meal!( I wish haha)

19. Thermos. I take the thermos out for longer outings, where I need warm boiled water on hand. It's the 'Thermos' brand and keeps liquid hot or cold for 24 hours.

20. Disposable bibs, I carry either these Heinz disposables or Mothercare water resistant bibs for meal time. I prefer the disposables when I'm out, as it saves me from washing a heavily stained bib when I get home.

Here are the mummy items.

21. Sunglasses, I need my sunny's for driving.

22. Car keys are an obvious when it's missy and I having a day out.

23. My purse with goodies. I keep my little must haves in here, hand sanitiser, Marc Jacobs Daisy Mini, Revlon colourburst gloss in pink ice and for a bit of colour Revlon balm stain in 055 (Adore). I keep these in my Coach wristlet purse.

24. Wallet, is an obvious. Can't go anywhere without it, (mind you, I have forgotten it on a few occasions, don't know where my head was at then haha).

And that's it! This took me longer than I expected. Hope you all had a great weekend.
